Dear Mama

Upside down, you await my arrival

9 months deep after a fought out battle

Yet here I am…

Longing to be in the presence of your arms

Longing to be surrounded by those waiting at the entrance

Not long till you crown me King as I enter

The bright red clothing stripped away as you hold me still

Still in your comforting arms

Your elation at the mere sight of me after a gruelling 8 hours

Great merriment and jubilation consumes the ward

Now I have arrived

The first of four, yet no words to introduce myself

A boisterous cry from the depths of my lungs

I thank you Mama for bringing me into this world

I thank you for the lessons taught

I thank you for the lessons yet to learn.

About haringeyunchained

Haringey Unchained is a collective of students aiming to show case the creative talent of Haringey Sixth Form College in Tottenham, London. We think that through the promotion of our creative thoughts, we can educate our community, bringing to the foreground the critical and creative consciousness of a vibrant school in a deprived part of London. We are endeavouring to provide this blog as a platform for our community, giving the space to those whose work otherwise might not be seen or read. Being that the cuffs are off, we are able to express through our photography, art, short fiction and poetry, what’s really on our minds. We are free.
